We marched about 180 during the 70's, and that was pretty large.  Last yr. they started the yr. with 225.  They expect 80 Freshmen this yr., but we're losing Sr.'s (not 80 for sure).

Don't know for sure,  but I'm thinking this and next  yr. will be the largest ever.

The bands back then seemed much larger.  Maybe because they were into more traditional marching formations.

Last yr. they started doing something different.  They have separated the band into a) Contest Band  and b) Friday Night Band.
Some kids WANT to compete and are anxious to work hard and excel. (Contest)   This band marches at halftime and performs the contest drill.
Some kids want to be in band, play in the stands, etc., but they really don't want to compete (FNB).  Those kids join the Contest band for the Marching I.

The good news,  it's THEIR choice, and you only have the ones that WANT to be there during competition.

The thing about being an Indian is that you're an Indian, no matter what. It doesn't matter if you play soccer or a tuba, it doesn't matter if you're on the football team or the drill team, it doesn't matter if you lead the cheers or the jeers. You're still part of that "Honor, Pride, & Tradition."
